2024 brought me what I’ve been calling “a crisis of confidence”. But I’m still moving forward. I like making things too much to stop.

Oof. “A crisis of confidence” hits deep. So happy to hear you’re moving through it.

As a musician I always wonder (and worry) why one piece soars and the others flop..there always seems to be a cycle...usually 3 flops to a success..that's life; but it's not always easy to swallow. My helps keep me afloat, and hopefully positive is that what I create is for me, and the world be damned. One ensemble I direct keeps asking to perform a song after their service, even when no one is listening. "Why?" I ask...and their answer is perfect.."because we like to do it!" And so embrace those who want to do it, to do you, and the rest be damned. Why? Do it because you like to do it. Happy New Year Dylan!

In the past few years, trust and caring have disappeared. Hatred, once considered impolite, is now open. And the divisions between us have become monumental.

You embody someone who can reach across divides. That is a rare skill. I think that is where you can do the most good, be happy and generate the income you deserve. I can't say exactly where....perhaps as a. public speaker, or consultant, or writer of training manuals. Perhaps even a "job" with a group like Greater Angels. Or create your own organization. Or your own empire with books, podcasts, etc.

You are lucky. Your skills and talent is needed. The trick may be to find a way to do this and be paid. I believe this is where you need to be and that you can turn things around. You can create your own position or structure. Talk to other like-minded people.

As AI develops, many standard jobs will disappear at all levels. You can work outside of that old framework.

We need you, Dylan.

As a May 2024 college grad, my 2024 has also been a flop when it comes to “jobs” lol. But it is reassuring to hear that a creative person I like and look up to has faced something similar

Sometimes our creative work comes with a short term win, sometimes they're longer term investments whose dividends appear unexpectedly 10 years down the line. We celebrate our icon (you) for being consistent in creation either way! BUT...someone pay my good sis please!

Holding you tight from afar. The work is more valid and more powerful than any job. That’s my mantra, at least. ❤️✌🏾

Love all that you make all of the time, even when I haven’t seen it yet.

Love you Dylan and I soooooooo feel you on all of this. Without a doubt I wager that there will be posts in the near and distant future that equate your some of your “new” successes to the ground laying work you did this year (internally, externally, personally, professionally). It’s hard to write about the growing, learning, rebuilding, f*cking tough years and lessons. Thanks for sharing so vulnerably. Cheering you on now and always. Xoxo
